Whimsical Contemporary Kitchen with Sentimental Roots

Functionality meets fun in interior designer Christina Boschetti’s family kitchen. While quirky design elements spark interest, strategic appliance and storage choices effortlessly meet the functional needs of her family. Many elements convey a lighthearted feel, yet the ubiquitous quartzite stone carries deeply sentimental value, symbolizing the roots the family hopes to put down with their remodeled home.

Highlights from this kitchen

TREE-INSPIRED SPLENDOR

Blue roma quartzite, reminiscent of tree roots and the inspiration for the project’s “Treehouse” title, infuses the kitchen with earthy splendor. This abstract stone shows up everywhere—countertops, backsplashes, walls, and sink—creating an immersive aesthetic.

STRATEGIC APPLIANCE ZONES

A seamless wall of Sub-Zero appliances provides considerable food and wine storage while the Wolf Range balances the space, enhancing both visual appeal and functionality. Defining a space of its own in the breakfast nook, the Wolf Coffee System ensures every morning starts with convenience.

PLAYFULLY PRACTICAL STORAGE

The expansive 15-foot island and reconfigured layout perfectly support the vision for a beautiful yet livable kitchen. Clever and convenient drawer storage ensures every spatula and spice jar is within easy reach while minimizing countertop clutter.

CONVERSATION-SPARKING DÉCOR

Numerous quirky details reflect the designer’s creative spirit, including the tempting candy station, playful light fixtures, and a neon sign quoting the inimitable Julia Child, “People who love to eat are always the best people.”

BIGGEST CHALLENGE TURNED CROWNING JEWEL

Originally over the island, the hood needed a ventilation overhaul to relocate it. This obstacle transformed into the star of the design: the now centrally located and hand-painted patina brass hood, anchoring and balancing the kitchen.
