Serenity Meets Sophistication in This Moody Kitchen

Inspired by their beloved vacation home in Telluride, Colorado, empty-nesters sought to recreate that sense of tranquility and welcoming spirit in their new build on Chicago’s North Shore. Seamlessly blending the warmth of mountain living with the sophistication suitable for its suburban setting, this kitchen design creates a functional, elegant space perfect for both private relaxation and lively entertaining.

TRANQUIL AND WELCOMING DESIGN

The homeowners wanted a space that evokes the same tranquility and hospitality as their mountain retreat. The H-shaped layout of the home creates a natural gathering point in the central common area while offering the desired peace and privacy in adjacent wings.

COHESIVE WHITE OAK FINISH

Ebonized white oak plays a prominent role throughout the home, connecting the kitchen, wet bar, and other living spaces. This cohesive element ties the spaces together, providing a seamless flow and sophisticated aesthetic.

MAXIMIZING NATURAL LIGHT

In a region with frequent gray skies, natural light is precious. Floor-to-ceiling windows and a long ridge skylight above the kitchen and living room maximize light.

HIDDEN FUNCTIONALITY

The design incorporates a concealed scullery pantry and a small study, keeping the main kitchen pristine for entertaining. Paneled Sub-Zero Refrigeration blends seamlessly into the cabinetry, ensuring a clean and uninterrupted look.

REFINED APPLIANCES

In the concealed scullery pantry and the main kitchen, Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances enhance the home's sophisticated style, providing the high performance needed while maintaining a cohesive, refined appearance.
