Ergonomic Kitchen Design Focuses
on Aging-in-Place Functionality
This kitchen design prioritizes functionality for homeowners in their 70s, ensuring ease of use now and in the future. The space integrates ergonomic storage and features for effortless entertaining with an appealing moody aesthetic and a connection to the outdoors. Thoughtful details ensure the kitchen is both beautiful and adaptable as the couple ages.
ERGONOMIC DESIGN
An accessibly placed Wolf Built-In Oven, retractable steps for reaching higher shelves in the butler’s pantry, and low storage that minimizes bending are just a few ergonomic design features that enhance the comfort of everyone who uses the kitchen.
ABUNDANT STORAGE
To accommodate the owners’ vast collection of kitchen equipment, the design includes abundant storage solutions. Cabinetry in both the main kitchen and adjoining butler’s pantry makes crockery, utensils, and glassware easily accessible, while maintaining an uncluttered, organized look.
FLEXIBLE FLOW
Dual entries in the butler’s pantry allow for flexible use, seamlessly expanding the kitchen area or closing it off as needed, making it ideal for both everyday use and larger social gatherings.
MOODY YET LIGHT-FILLED
The kitchen’s moody palette—with dark timber veneers and oxidized bronze details—finds balance in the abundant natural light let in through windows and skylights. The windows create a sense of openness and tranquility, while thoughtfully connecting the space to the surrounding gardens.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY DETAILS
Sustainable timber veneers, energy-efficient Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances, and water-saving fixtures ensure the space is both beautiful and environmentally friendly.
