Answer:
Designer Wine Storage (IW) units connect to home security systems using low-voltage leads to chime an alarm if temperatures are too cold or too warm based on the setpoint.
- If the electronic control detects a wine zone that is 10°F (6°C) warmer than the setpoint temperature threshold or 5°F (3°C) colder than the setpoint temperature threshold for an extended period of time, the alarm sounds.
- The home security system company typically connects products to the alarm system. See also, Wine Storage Temperature Alarm Connected to Home Alarm System.
- If the warm temperature threshold is reached:
- Error code appears
- Light relays are disabled
- Alarm relay is enabled
- If the alarm key has been pressed, alarm chimes
- If the cold temperature threshold is reached:
- Error code appears
- Compressor is disabled
- Refrigerant valve is disabled
- Evaporator fans are disabled
- Alarm relay is enabled
- If the alarm key has been pressed, alarm chimes
To connect the product to an alarm system:
- Find two connectors behind the top trim.
- Provide 10' (3 m) minimum lead wires for each connector, exiting the back wall near the electrical receptacle.
- Remove the top trim by disengaging the trim from the hinge side of the unit.
- Rotate the trim and remove the trim pin from the handle side vertical support.
- Use spade terminals or wire nuts to make proper wiring connections. Refer to the following color codes:
- Normally open contacts - white with red stripe wire
- Normally closed contacts - white with blue stripe wire
- Common - gray with white stripe wire
To test the alarm:
- Allow one zone in the unit to reach set temperature of 40°F (4°C).
- Once set temperature is reached, change the setpoint to 65°F (18°C) and wait 30 minutes.
- All other zones should have setpoints at the highest value to help speed up the testing procedure.
Refer to the product Installation Guide for further installation information.
