200 and 300 Series Number of Compressors and Controls
Topics:
- How many compressors are in a 361, 3211, 2511, 2811, 2711, 211?
- Do 200 / 300 Series have one or two temperature dial controls?
- Where are the temperature dial controls located in Single Control Units or Dual Control Units?
Answer:
Number of Compressors:
The 200 and 300 series combination refrigerator/freezers had two compressors with some exceptions:
- Any model that has a single "1" af the end (ex 251, 361) has only one compressor.
The number of ones (1) in the model number of 200 & 300 series Sub-Zeros matches how many temperature controls and compressors the unit has.
- For example, a 361RFD has one temperature control and one compressor while a 3211RFD has two controls and two compressors.
- Model 211 is the only exception, it has one control and one compressor.
- For all controls, one is the warmest setting and depending on the age of the unit, either 7 or 10 is the coldest setting on the control dial.
Single Control Units
- There is only one temperature knob that controls both compartments and it is located in the upper right or left of the refrigerator section.
- The 200/300 Series units with one compressor would transfer cold air from the freezer to the refrigerator compartment to cool it.
Locate the Temperature Knob:
- Place a hand on the back wall of the unit near the top
- Run along the upper right and upper left corners until the control is located.
Dual Control Units
- There are two temperature knobs that control each compartment separately.
- They are both located in the upper right or left of the refrigerator and freezer compartments.
- Dual control units also have two compressors that allow for each compartment to cool independent from the other.
Locate the Temperature Knob:
- Place a hand on the back wall of the unit near the top
- Run along the upper right and upper left corners until the control is located.
