Dishwasher Air Gap Device
Topics:
- Is an air gap device required for dishwasher installation?
- When to use air gap device
- How and where to install air gap device
Answer:
An air gap device is a small pipe that sticks up off the kitchen sink, typically 4-5 inches. It prevents sink drain water from backing up into the dishwasher, possibly contaminating dishes.
- An air gap device is not used in all dishwasher installations and is not provided with the Cove Dishwasher.
- Air gap requirements vary by state. For example, Wisconsin requires an air gap above or below the sink.
- The air gap device is usually in the rear left or right corner of the sink.
- Air gaps installed above the sink can be checked for clogs by removing the cap and checking the screen underneath.
- Refer to the product Installation Guide for further installation information.
- Regularly clean the dishwasher and keep the dishwasher filters clean.
- Dirty filters lead to the air gap becoming clogged.
- To clean an air gap, remove the cover and check for blocked hoses.
